A Loaded Gun
There is nothing more motivating than a loaded gun held to the head. It is the fastest way to get a decision for both – usually from the one who is under its threat, for the one who is holding the gun.
There are many loaded guns (means) used in business to obtain specific results. These results are derived from being crucially decisive at very important times when there appears to be no way out.
We often hear talk of “desperation quotients” i.e. “desperate times call for desperate means” etc. It is often in these desperate moments unique inspiration and innovations are extruded from deep within, often with great duress, pressure and pain. Is this because it forces us to go much deeper within ourselves, into our latent resources, than we’ve ever dared before?
I call it the “subliminal shock factor” which sends us beneath the common and familiar surfaces of our mind when we’ve never had the will nor energy to do so before – a bit like striking new oil deeper than we’ve ever drilled before, and we didn’t even know it was there. Have you experienced it? What do you think it is?
